The Sociology Major

The Sociology Major

The requirements for the sociology major are designed to provide students with a basic overview of the field (SOC 101) and foundational skills in social research methods (SOC 293), statistical analysis (SOC 294), and sociological theory (SOC 349). Majors go on to take eight electives of their choosing in sociology. Majors have the option of arranging their elective coursework to specialize in Health & Society, Crime, Law, & Justice, Applied Social Science Research, and/or Global Sociology.

Majors are eligible for sociology internships, scholarships, awards, and honors. Majors are also eligible for nomination to our Sociology Student Spotlight program.

Majors might also be interested in our combined BA/MA degree in Applied Social Research.
