Application for Sociology Major
Provisional Acceptance as a Major
Students who have an overall average of 2.0 or better and have completed Sociology 101 with a grade of C or better may apply for Provisional Acceptance to the Major using the same Application form. The provisional status ends when students complete the full acceptance criteria for the Major.
Full Acceptance Criteria for a Major
- Overall average of 2.0 or better
- Sociology 101 with a grade of C or better
- Two other courses in sociology with a grade of C or better
Required Courses = 12 credit hours
- SOC 101 Introduction to Sociology
- SOC 293 Social Research Methods (may substitute PSY 250 or SSC 213 with the addition of 3 credit hours of sociology electives)
- SOC 294 Basic Statistics in Social Science (may substitute CEP 207, ECO 480, PSC 408, PSY 207, STA 119, or SSC 225, with the addition of 3 credit hours of sociology electives)
- SOC 349 Classical Sociological Theory or SOC 350 Contemporary Sociological Theory
- Students must earn a 2.0 (C) or better in each of the four required courses.
Sociology Electives = 24 credit hours
Eight additional Sociology courses
Total Sociology Credits = 36 credit hours
