Faculty Recruitment
The Department of Sociology invites applicants for one tenure track position, at the Assistant or advanced Assistant Professor rank, to begin fall, 2008, contingent on final budgetary approval. Candidates for the position must have expertise in Urban and Community. We are especially interested in applicants whose research interests intersect with law and society, public policy, or urban social order and control. Usual teaching responsibilities include one graduate and three undergraduate courses per year. Successful applicants will be expected to seek external funding for research. Candidates are expected to have a PhD by August 31, 2008 . The department specializes in urban/community, law and society, race and ethnicity, and family and the life course and houses a survey research lab as well as two research institutes: 1) Law and Urban Justice, and 2) Ethnicity and the Life Course. The department is a major contributor to the UB strategic strength in Civic Engagement and Public Policy. The department collaborates closely with the Baldy Center for Law and Social Policy and the UB Law School. UB, the most comprehensive research university in SUNY, has a full array of professional schools, and sponsors competition for funds to collaborate with faculty in Law, Architecture and Planning, Education, Health Sciences, Social Work, Research Institute on Addictions, and other departments in the university.
