- Professor Sampson Lee Blair received the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching. This SUNY award honors those who consistently demonstrate superb teaching at the undergraduate, graduate, or professional level. Professor Blair is one of only two professors in the College of Arts and Sciences to receive the award this year. For more...
- Professor Robert Granfield organized a Baldy Center for Law and Social Policy conference titled, Private Lawyers and the Public Interest: The Evolving Role of Pro Bono in the Legal Profession held on April 24th-26th. This conference brought in 20 national scholars to present research on the evolving role of pro bono, the relationship between pro bono ideals and pro bono in practice, and the opportunities and limitations of pro bono in expanding access to justice. - Professor Robert Wagmiller's article, "The Changing Geography of Male Joblessness in Urban America: 1970 to 2000," has been published in the May issue of Housing Policy Debate. This article is available for download here.

Professor Brenda Moore will be facilitating two panels at the Fourth National Summit on Women Veterans' Issues which will be held in Washington, D.C., June 20-28. The Summit, which is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, will address new and breaking issues on women veterans and develop a plan for future progress on women veterans’ matters. Professor Moore will facilitate the panels on "Environmental Exposure Concerns: WWII to Present," and "What the Health Data Show." For more....
Professor Robert Wagmiller received a Work-Family Early Career Development grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation for a project entitled "Women’s Family and Work Trajectories: Implications for Later Life Income Security."
- On November 4, 2007 in recognition of his dedication to teaching and service to students, Professor Sampson Lee Blair was bestowed as an honorary faculty member of the UB chapter of the Golden Key International Honour Society.

- Professor Robert Wagmiller was named a National Research Affiliate of the National Poverty Center at the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy, University of Michigan.
- Professor Debra Street and Professor Brenda Moore will present "Gender and Deployment: Experiences of Stateside Families" at a Maxwell Center Policy Research Symposium, Syracuse University, October 5-6, 2007. The conference, Military Service, Social (Dis)Advantage, and the Life Course has received funding from the University of Wisconsin Center for Demography of Health and Aging and the National Institute on Aging (NIA Grant# 1RO1AG028480-01).
- Principal Investigator Debra Street and Co-Investigator Paulette Niewczyk (PhD, UB 2007) were notified (June 2007) that the National Science Foundation, SES Division, Sociology Program award panel recommended funding their Doctoral Dissertation Research grant proposal entitled "Health Care Disparities: Causes and Contributing Factors."
- Professor Elaine Howard Ecklund received a grant from the Russell Sage Foundation for a project entitled "Religion and the Changing Face of American Civic Life."
